The WPIAL Individual Wrestling Championships wrapped up Saturday at Canon-McMillan (3A), Chartiers Valley (2A) and Mt. Lebanon (Girls). Listen Here
Class 3A notes: Top 7 advance to West Regional next weekend. Canon-McMillan has 9 regional qualifiers, Trinity six, Ringgold 2, Peters Township and Waynesburg one each. The host Big Macs won a pair of individual championships, Lee Dreshman (107) and Collier Hartman (139).
Class 2A notes: Top 8 advance to Southwest Regional next weekend. McGuffey is sending all 9 of its WPIAL qualifiers to the regional including champion Lucas Barr (133). Burgettstown has 7 qualifiers, Bentworth and Jeff-Morgan 5 each. Beth-Center has 4 including 215-pound champion Noah Layhue. Wash High also has 4 qualifiers. Chartiers-Houston and West Greene will send two wrestlers to the regionals. The Pioneers getting a championship from Colin Whyte (285). Fort Cherry has one qualifier.
Girls notes: Top 5 advance to the West Regional with Districts 8 & 10. Canon-McMillan has 8 qualifiers including 118-pound champion Marlee Solomon. Fort Cherry’s Ella Trahan won the 106-pound title, one of two regional qualifiers for the Rangers. Avella, Beth-Center, Burgettstown, Peters Township, Ringgold, Trinity and West Greene have one regional qualifier each.
