Pitt Holds Off Georgia Tech

ATLANTA (AP) — Ja’Kyrian Turner ran for 201 yards and a touchdown, Braylan Lovelace had a 100-yard interception return and Pittsburgh held off No. 15 Georgia Tech 42-28 on Saturday night to keep its Atlantic Coast Conference championship holes alive. Up 28-0 early in the second quarter, Pitt (8-3, 6-1) had only a seven-point advantage in the fourth quarter when Turner went up the middle for 56 yards and a touchdown with 2:41 remaining. Mason Heintschel was 20 of 27 from 226 yards and two touchdowns for Pitt. Kenny Johnson caught six passes for 91 yards and a score. Georgia Tech (9-2, 6-2) dropped out of the ACC title chase. Haynes King completed 27 of 41 passes, with a pair of scoring throws to Isiah Canion.

Nittany Lions pound Cornhuskers

(AP) — Kaytron Allen ran for 160 yards with two touchdowns and Penn State’s defense played its best game of the season to keep the Nittany Lions’ bowl hopes alive with a 37-10 win over Nebraska on Saturday.Allen, who racked up 181 rushing yards in last week’s win against Michigan State, became Penn State’s all-time leading rusher with 3,954 yards, passing Evan Royster’s 3,932 set in 2010.The senior back plowed through and zipped around the Huskers all night. Allen passed Saquon Barkley on the school’s career rushing list in the first half before eclipsing Royster with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.By then the Nittany Lions (5-6, 2-6 Big Ten) had put the game out of reach, scoring on five-straight possessions while their defense stymied the Cornhuskers.

Gustavsson Makes 19 Saves, Wild Beat Penguins

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Filip Gustavsson made 19 saves for his second shutout of the season, Matt Boldy had two goals and an assist and the Minnesota Wild beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0 on Friday night for their fourth straight victory. The Wild have three shutouts in their last six games and have eight victories and only one regulation loss in 10 games in November. Pittsburgh played its first game since beating Nashville on Sunday in Sweden to split Global Series games. Gustavsson has recently formed a formidable goaltending tandem with fellow Swede Jesper Wallstedt, the backup who had consecutive shutouts against Calgary and Anaheim. Joel Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov each had a goal and an assist and Marcus Johansson also scored.

Steelers’ Rodgers Questionable For Sunday

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers has practiced with a broken left wrist in a brace, raising the possibility of playing against Chicago on Sunday. Coach Mike Tomlin said Rodgers practiced in a limited capacity and showed no major issues with the brace on the injured wrist. Rodgers is officially listed as questionable for the game as Pittsburgh aims for a rare win in Chicago. If Rodgers can’t play, Mason Rudolph will start.

NCAA; Ex-Temple Basketball Player Hysier Miller Bet On His Team

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA says former Temple guard Hysier Miller placed dozens of bets on Owls games, including some against his team. The NCAA deemed Miller permanently ineligible after finding he placed 42 parlay bets totaling $473 on Temple games during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. The NCAA says three of those bets were against his team. The NCAA found he used sportsbook accounts belonging to other people to bet. Additionally, former Temple special assistant coach Camren Wynter and former graduate assistant Jaylen Bond were found to have violated NCAA rules by betting on professional and collegiate sports, although neither bet on games involving Temple.

Rodgers Practices As Steelers Prepare For Bears

But it’s not clear who will be at quarterback for the Steelers. Mason Rudolph will start if Rodgers can’t go. The NFC North-leading Bears have won seven of eight, though they haven’t made it easy on themselves. Chicago has five wins this season after trailing in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, including the past three games.

Texans Get 8 Sacks In Win Over Bills

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston’s dominant defense sacked Josh Allen eight times and Calen Bullock forced three turnovers, with his second interception sealing the Texans’ 23-19 win over the Buffalo Bills. After Allen took consecutive sacks on the Bills’ final possession, they faced fourth-and-27 but gained 44 yards on a short pass from Allen to Josh Palmer, who tossed a lateral to Khalil Shakir. But on another fourth down, Bullock picked off Allen’s pass at the Houston 9 with 24 seconds left. Davis Mills threw for 153 yards with two first-half TD passes to help the Texans (6-5) to their third straight victory with C.J. Stroud sidelined by a concussion. Houston moved above .500 for the first time this season. Buffalo is 7-4.

Pitt Falls To Central Florida

(AP) — Riley Kugel and Themus Fulks scored 18 points each, Jamichael Stillwell had 12 points and 11 rebounds and UCF defeated Pittsburgh 77-67 on Thursday night for its fourth straight win. Kugel was 8 of 14 from the floor and Fulks 7 of 12, making all three of his 3-pointers. Fulks’ fellow Milwaukee transfer, Stillwell, posted his second double-double this season. He had 16 last season. Cameron Corhen had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Damarco Minor, with four 3-pointers, and Barry Dunning Jr. added 14 points each.

Rodgers Optimistic About Playing In Chicago

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Aaron Rodgers is optimistic about playing against the Bears on Sunday despite a broken wrist. The 41-year-old quarterback, known for his rivalry with Chicago, is hoping to face the Bears one last time. Rodgers posted an 11-1 record at Soldier Field during his highly successful run with the Green Bay Packers earlier in his career. Rodgers broke his wrist late in the first half of Pittsburgh’s victory over Cincinnati last week. He will attempt to practice wearing a brace to protect his wrist. MLB To Comply With Senate Request For Gambling Documents

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball says it will comply with a Senate committee’s request for documents on gambling investigations. Senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell sent a letter to Commissioner Rob Manfred asking for information by Dec. 5. This follows indictments of Cleveland pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz, who are accused of taking bribes to rig pitches. They have pleaded not guilty. Manfred says MLB’s internal investigation has no timetable. MLB is also aiding players who have received threats related to gambling. Manfred avoided discussing management’s positions in collective bargaining for a new labor contract.
