There Is A Curling Controversy At The Winter Olympics

February 15, 2026 6:09 am

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) — Controversy is swirling in curling at the Winter Olympics. It centers on whether the Canadian men’s and women’s teams are cheating by double-touching stones after they are released on the ice. It comes as the historic curling powerhouse finds its ego bruised. Its mixed doubles team didn’t even play for a medal, and both teams cannot afford to lose more matches if they want a reach the medal matches.

Bhatia’s Big Birdie Runs Helps Him Lead At Pebble Beach

February 15, 2026 6:07 am

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Akshay Bhatia goes into the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a two-shot lead. He shot a 68 on Saturday with a big run of birdies on the scoring holes early. That gave him enough of a cushion to hold on when the cold wind arrived. Bhatia is up two over Jake Knapp, Collin Morikawa and Sepp Straka. The final hour was a prelude to Sunday. The wind was whipping and golf balls were wobbling on the greens. Wind and rain are in the forecast and tee times have been moved up by an hour.

A battered Car Forces William Byron Into A Backup

February 15, 2026 6:20 am

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — William Byron chases an unprecedented third straight Daytona 500 win Sunday when he attempts to make NASCAR history. He’ll be trying to win NASCAR’s season opener for the third consecutive year in a backup car after he damaged his primary in a qualifying race. He starts near the back in 39th, but he says that does not scare him. Byron has won here with a backup before. He has also won by staying patient and avoiding trouble, not by leading lots of laps. The field also has big storylines. Kyle Busch starts on the pole while stuck in a long winless skid and Brad Keselowski races while recovering from a broken leg.

Basketball Playoffs–Friday, Feb. 13

February 14, 2026 3:58 am

Vitt Emerich hit a pair of free throws with a half-second to play, giving Trinity the win at West Allegheny. The Hillers trailed by 9 points midway through the third, then built a 10-point lead halfway through the fourth. West Allegheny tied the game with just over a minute to play before Emerich was fouled just before the buzzer, sending her to the line. Peters Township built a 7-point lead at the half and held #5 Plum at arms length the rest of the way, scoring an opening-round upset. In the 3A girls bracket, #7 Waynesburg won at home while #11 McGuffey was eliminated with a road loss. Quad God’ Ilia Malinin Falls Twice In Olympic Disaster

February 14, 2026 4:07 am

MILAN (AP) — Ilia Malinin crashed out of the Olympic figure skating podium after a disastrous free skate and Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan takes a shocking gold medal. On Friday night in Milan Cortina, Malinin fell twice and dropped from first after the short program to eighth overall. AP reports the arena sat in stunned silence as Malinin fought back tears after one of his worst performances. Shaidorov posted a career-best 291.58 points and gave Kazakhstan its first Winter Games gold medal. Yuma Kagiyama won silver again and Japan’s Shun Sato took bronze. Malinin’s long unbeaten streak was ended.
