Blue Jays Force Game Seven In ALCS

October 20, 2025 6:15 am

TORONTO (AP) — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his sixth home run this postseason, rookie Trey Yesavage struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings and the Toronto Blue Jays forced a Game 7 in the American League Championship Series by beating the Seattle Mariners 6-2. The series will be decided Monday night in Toronto, the second Game 7 in Blue Jays history. Toronto lost to Kansas City in the 1985 ALCS. Seattle, the only big league team without a pennant, will play in a Game 7 for the first time. The winner faces the NL champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series beginning Friday. Addison Barger homered and drove in three early runs, and the Blue Jays turned three double plays behind Yesavage — two of them to escape bases-loaded jams.

Peduzzi is second on that list, now with 45 scoring catches. W&J improves to 4-0 in conference play, one game up on a four-team logjam: Case-Western, Geneva, Grove City and Westminster. The Presidents play the first two in the group in back-to-back games Nov. 1 & Nov. 8. W&J has already beaten Grove City & Westminster. Wash/Jeff will host Waynesburg next Saturday at Cameron Stadium and on WJPA-AM.

Crosby, Malkin, Jarry Shine In Shutout Win Over San Jose

October 19, 2025 7:12 am

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist, Tristan Jarry stopped 31 shots for his 22nd career shutout, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the San Jose Sharks 3-0. Anthony Mantha also scored for the Penguins, who improved to 4-2-0 on the season. Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves for the Sharks, and San Jose outshot an opponent for the first time this season but was unable to score. Penn State Loses 4th Straight; Franklin “Shocked” at Firing

October 19, 2025 7:14 am

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski rushed for a career-high 130 yards and two touchdowns, and Kaden Wetjen scored the go-ahead touchdown on an 8-yard run with 3:54 to play, as the Hawkeyes defeated Penn State 25-24 on Saturday night. The Hawkeyes (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) trailed 24-19 with 4:56 to play, but Gronowski ran 67 yards on the first play after the ensuing kickoff, setting up Wetjen’s run a play later. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Nittany Lions (3-4, 0-4), playing their first game for interim coach Terry Smith six days after the firing of James Franklin. (Photo: AP)

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — James Franklin says he was shocked when Penn State fired him hours after a loss in which the Nittany Lions also lost quarterback Drew Allar to a season-ending injury but that he cannot wait to coach again elsewhere. Franklin said Saturday on ESPN’s “College GameDay” that Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft visited him ahead of a practice last Sunday and told him the university was making a change. Franklin said he was surprised because Penn State was fighting to play for a national title six games ago and was a two-minute drive away from beating Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl last season. He said decisions were made that didn’t involve him.
