Utah Beats West Virginia Handily, Devon Dampier Sets Career High

September 28, 2025 8:05 am

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Devon Dampier threw a career-high four touchdown passes and ran for another score as Utah beat West Virginia 48-14. Dampier bounced back from a lopsided home loss to Texas Tech last week in which he didn’t throw a touchdown pass and was intercepted twice. Utah scored on its first three drives Saturday and was never challenged by a West Virginia offense that was missing several starters. Dampier completed 21 of 26 passes for 237 yards in three quarters of play. He was intercepted once. West Virginia quarterback Jaylen Henderson started in place of the injured Nicco Marchiol but was ineffective and replaced after halftime.

Europe Takes Commanding Lead over USA in Ryder Cup

September 27, 2025 4:19 am

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Europe’s top stars are playing like it in the Ryder Cup and the result was to be expected. Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy led the way at Bethpage Black as Team Europe won both sessions Friday to build a 5 1/2-1 1/2 lead. Rahm was unstoppable with the putter. Europe silenced the notoriously loud crowd at Bethpage Black. Bryson DeChambeau brought the energy. He just forgot to bring the points. He lost both his matches. Scottie Scheffler also lost both his matches. It was the first time since Tiger Woods in 2002 that a No. 1 player started 0-2.

Morris ran for three scores and had two touchdown passes for the Cavaliers (4-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). After the go-ahead TD run, he completed a pass to Trell Harris for the 2-point conversion. Florida State (3-1, 0-1) had a chance to tie, but Duce Robinson bobbled a pass going out the back of the end zone on third down. On fourth-and-12 at the 27, Tommy Castellanos’ heave into the end zone was intercepted by Ja’Son Prevard, with Cavaliers fans instantly storming the field.

Steelers Ireland Trip Honors Rooney Legacy

September 26, 2025 4:39 am

Mike Tomlin isn’t using the Pittsburgh Steelers’ trip to Ireland as a chance to teach his club a history lesson or two. The franchise has deep ties to the Emerald Isle, but Tomlin likened Pittsburgh’s meeting with Minnesota at Croke Park to a “business trip.” Both teams come in with 2-1 records, though the Steelers have been more opportunistic than impressive through three games. The Vikings have Carson Wentz starting at quarterback while J.J. McCarthy recovers from a sprained ankle. The Vikings’ defense has been strong, forcing five turnovers last week.
