February 18, 2026 2:50 am

After 20 years as an athletic director, the last 15 at Peters Township, Brian Geyer has agreed to become associate executive director at the WPIAL.  Geyer has been president of the WPIAL Board of Directors and a member of the PIAA Board. He will leave those positions effective at the end of February. Under Geyer’s leadership, Peters Township has won a PIAA girls basketball championship, multiple WPIAL titles and has hosted numerous championship and playoff events at the newly-constructed AHN Arena. The League’s associate position has been vacant since mid-December when Vince Sortino succeeded Scott Seltzer as Executive Director. Justin Pyles, assistant athletic director at Peters Township, will oversee the day-to-day operations when Geyer departs at the end of the month. The District will then name a permanent successor (Photo courtesy WPIAL)

Tony Clark Resigns As MLB Players’ Union Head

February 18, 2026 4:24 am

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tony Clark has resigned as head of the Major League Baseball Players Association, the union announced said, as a possible salary cap fight looms during a federal investigation of its finances. Clark was asked to resign by the eight-man executive subcommittee of the players’ association after an investigation by the union’s outside counsel discovered evidence that Clark had an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, a union employee since 2023, a person familiar with the union’s deliberations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because that was not announced.

Tiger Woods Not Ruling Out Return To The Masters

February 18, 2026 4:25 am

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The immediate future of Tiger Woods is in the boardroom instead of the golf course. Woods still won’t rule out returning to the Masters. All he says is that playing the first major of the year isn’t off the table. But he is coming off a year in which he didn’t compete in a single tournament for the first time in his career. He had disk replacement surgery in October. Most of his time is occupied in the PGA Tour boardroom as head of the committee reshaping the schedule. Also on hold is being Ryder Cup captain.

Michigan Rises To No. 1 In AP Top 25 Men’s Hoops Poll

February 17, 2026 4:25 am

Michigan is No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll for the first time in 13 years, ending Arizona’s nine-week reign. The Wolverines claimed 60 of 61 first-place votes in Monday’s new poll to climb one spot and supplant the Wildcats. Arizona had been unbeaten entering last week before falling at Kansas and at home to Texas Tech. It marks Michigan’s first No. 1 ranking since January 2013. Houston, Duke, Arizona and UConn rounded out the top five. No. 24 Wisconsin and No. 25 Alabama were the week’s new additions. They replaced Clemson and Kentucky.

Dolphins Releasing Star Receiver Tyreek Hill

February 17, 2026 4:24 am

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Dolphins are releasing star receiver Tyreek Hill, ending the All-Pro’s four-year tenure in Miami. Hill is recovering from a season-ending injury suffered in a game against the New York Jets on Sept. 29 that required surgery to repair significant damage to his left knee, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament. It is one of several major roster cuts the Dolphins made on Monday. The Dolphins acquired Hill in a trade with Kansas City ahead of the 2022 season and gave him a $120 million, four-year contract extension.

U.S. & Canada Will Meet For Gold In Women’s Hockey

February 17, 2026 4:21 am

MILAN (AP) — The United States and Canada will face off for Olympic gold for a seventh time since women’s hockey debuted at the 1998 Nagano Games in a border rivalry that never gets old. And this time, the Americans are the favorites at the Milan Cortina Games. The U.S. clinched its berth with a 5-0 win over Sweden in semifinal play. And the defending champion Canadians followed with Marie-Philip Poulin scoring twice to set the Olympic career goal record in a too-close-for-comfort 2-1 victory over Switzerland. The outcomes set up the latest showdown between the sport’s global powers in the gold medal final on Thursday.

Morikawa Birdies 18th To Win At Pebble Beach

February 16, 2026 4:26 am

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Collin Morikawa had to wait more than two years to win again on the PGA Tour. First he had to wait 20 minutes on the 18th hole at Pebble Beach to try to make birdie. He delivered in the clutch for a 67 to win by one shot over Sepp Straka and Min Woo Lee in the cold wind at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He also had to respond to a Sunday charge by Scottie Scheffler. The world’s No. 1 player made three eagles in his round of 63. He settled for an 18th consecutive top 10.

Tyler Reddick Wins Daytona 500

February 16, 2026 4:28 am

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Tyler Reddick won the Daytona 500 in a car owned by Michael Jordan when Chase Elliott crashed as he and Reddick were battling for the win. Reddick, in a Toyota for 23XI Racing, led only one lap: the one to the checkered flag for the team owned by the NBA Hall of Famer and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin. Jordan was the face of the December federal antitrust lawsuit that NASCAR settled on the ninth day of trial. The settlement changed the revenue-sharing model in the United States’ top motorsports series.

Curling Controversy At Olympics

February 16, 2026 4:27 am

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) — Controversy is swirling in curling at the Winter Olympics. The Canadian men’s and women’s teams, as well as the British men’s team, have now been accused of the same infraction: double-touching the curling stone after it is released. It comes as Canada, a historic curling powerhouse, finds its ego bruised. Its mixed doubles team didn’t even play for a medal, and the women’s team can’t afford to lose more matches if it wants to reach the medal round.
